Main Channel: Stick to the main river channel and follow the river as it starts curving inland. Be cautious of larger vessels and keep to the channel markers. First Bridge: 3rd Avenue Bridge Distance: The first bridge you’ll encounter is the 3rd Avenue Bridge, about 1.5 miles from the inlet. Bridge Clearance: You’ll have about 12-14 feet of clearance depending on the tide, so if your boat is taller, you’ll need to request an opening from the bridge tender. VHF: Contact the bridge tender on VHF Channel 9 to arrange for the opening if necessary. Second Bridge: Andrews Avenue Bridge Continue westward, and the next bridge you’ll approach is the Andrews Avenue Bridge. Bridge Clearance: Similar to the 3rd Avenue Bridge, you’ll have about 12-14 feet of clearance, and may need to wait for an opening for taller boats. VHF: Communicate with the bridge tender on VHF Channel 9 if you need an opening. Third Bridge: 7th Avenue Bridge Continue west along the New River. The 7th Avenue Bridge will be the next bridge. Clearance: As with the previous bridges, clearance will be around 12-14 feet, so a lift may be needed for taller vessels. Contact the bridge tender via VHF Channel 9 for opening instructions. Take the South Fork of the New River After passing 7th Avenue Bridge, you will be approaching a critical point: the junction of the South Fork of the New River. Turn Left on the South Fork. This is where the river splits, and you need to be careful here to follow the correct fork toward the residential areas. Navigational Challenge: The turn around Little Florida (a small island) can be tight, so proceed with caution. It’s a narrow part of the river, and your boat may need to maneuver a bit to navigate around the sharp curve. Little Florida: Stay close to the left side of the South Fork to pass around the island. Watch for submerged obstacles, especially in this bend. The Wiggles: After passing Little Florida, the river will narrow and take you through the Wiggles (a series of tight turns), where you’ll need to slow down and be prepared to navigate these narrower, winding sections. Final Bridge: Davie Boulevard Bridge After passing through the Wiggles, you’ll approach the Davie Boulevard Bridge, which will be the last bridge before you reach Citrus Isle. Bridge Clearance: As with the others, the Davie Boulevard Bridge has a clearance of about 12-14 feet at high tide, so you’ll need to request an opening if you're on a taller boat. VHF: Contact the bridge tender on VHF Channel 9 for opening arrangements. Approaching Your Destination: 1329 Citrus Isle After passing the Davie Boulevard Bridge, you will be very close to your destination. Citrus Isle is a residential neighborhood on the north side of the New River. Arrival: Slow down as you approach 1329 Citrus Isle. Keep an eye out for the dock or house number, as it should be marked along the waterfront. Be careful of other boats, docks, and any debris as you approach the residential area. The river here may be more congested with local boat traffic.
